De originele markt voor deze figures bestond uit jongens óf volwassen verzamelaars. Toen makers van de action figures erachter kwamen dat de figures ook als collectors item werden verzameld, is er onderscheid gemaakt tussen action figures die gebruikt worden als speelgoed voor jongens, of action figures die verzameld worden door volwassenen met gedefinieerde details.
